BED AND BREAKFAST, Sandridge Tower,

BROMHAM, CHIPPENHAM, NORTH WILTSHIRE, UK

A popular place –

Not far away is the National Trust Village of Lacock where Jane Austin's film Pride and  Prejudice was filmed. The world heritage city of Bath is about 20 minutes drive. The old market town of Corsham with its 14th century houses is not far away and a little further on is the 13th century village of Castle Coombe. Further on but not too far by car are Stonehenge and Avebury with the ancient stone circles, Devizes Canal and Swindon Steam railway museum, Salisbury Cathedral and Devizes Castle. Good eating out either locally or in Chippenham.

If you like horse riding there is a stables nearby. The woods are great for bird watching, as well as deer, badgers and other natural life. The nearby historic Bowood Estate (open to the public) has a golf course

Background to Sandridge Tower

Sandridge Tower is a Grade 2 historic listed building, Built as a Folly it stands on the site of 14th Century church and it is thought Oliver Cromwell stabled his horses here prior to the battle of Roundway during the English Civil War. Originally Sandridge Tower was part of nearby Spye Park but was given to a younger son. Latterly it has been a registered nursing home.
